Would you give $40k for a horrific Porsche 911E Targa barn find?

You could buy an exotic 50-year-old Porsche 911E Targa in the United States for as low as $40,000, but be prepared to invest several times that amount into bringing it back to tip-top shape.

Whoever ends up owning the bard find will have their work cut out for them: the body is rusted right through, the original green paint is only barely discernible on the hood and the front end, the light-hued leather trim is in tatters, and the floor has rotten.

Nothing is reported about the state of the powertrain, although the seller does mention that the old 2.0-liter engine with 165 PS (163 hp / 121 kW) has been swapped out for the superior 2.4-liter mill of the 911S model, rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW).

The first-generation 911E Targa debuted as far back as 1965. You may watch the video if you would like a reminder.
