Few people now remember the story when a German filming crew shooting a documentary about 1960s history of Porsche 911 had accidentally come upon an entirely unique vehicle sitting in an abandoned parking garage, forgotten by everyone.
The vehicle was Porsche 901, one of the first mass-produced sports car models in history. Its production had only lasted several weeks before the company had to change its series name to Porsche 911 due to patent disagreements with Peugeot.
Upon assessment by competent professionals, the German car manufacturer decided to buy it back. Just how much was paid for the age-worn veteran car whose condition could hardly even be called “satisfactory” remained undisclosed.
The vehicle has spent three years in restoration workshops until resurfacing to public attention again with several new photos published on the Internet. It is now going to become the centerpiece of a Porsche-organized exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany titled “911 (901 No. 57) – A Legend Takes Off”.
