Acceleration races may be predictable and even boring depending on who’s participating, but things get very interesting when the least powerful contender has 1,100 horsepower under the hood.
This recent video by CarWOW has an Audi TT RS going up against its relative, the R8, and its compatriot, the Porsche 911 Turbo S. The owner of the TT RS allegedly spent U.S. $110,000 on upgrading the engine of his ride alone, so it now churns out 1,100 HP (820 kW) and costs more than the whole car.
The R8 is no less lucky: its V-shaped ten-cylinder received dual turbos and began pumping out 1,200 HP (895 kW) instead of the usual 540 HP (403 kW). As for the Porsche, its owner claims to have invested over $125,000 in the build, boring out the engine from 3.8 to 4.2 liters of displacement. Once all was said and done, the iconic sports car slammed the asphalt with 1,100 HP (820 kW), which is especially formidable considering its low weight.
Now, it would be sacrilegious to just blurt out who won the races and spoil all the fun. Let’s just say that all three managed to complete the quarter-mile run in under ten seconds, despite an occasional driver’s error and technical malfunction.
