A recent batch of spy shots depicts an odd 922-gen Porsche 911 with a suspension lift and rather massive wheel arches, which sets it sharply apart from the more traditional 911 models.
In all likelihood, what we observe here is an off-road version dubbed the Safari, which Porsche actually announced a while ago. It also mentioned a large number of special editions coming for the 911 (922), including a hybrid.
The photos were made on the Nürburgring. Aside from the raised suspension and flared wheel arches, the car sports subtly redesigned bumpers and what feels like an all-wheel-drive system.
It remains to be seen whether the alleged Safari ever gets a full-fledged production run, or just comes out in a small batch for those interested. Given a rather large niche of off-roading sports car enthusiasts, however, we expect Porsche to be rather interested.
