The German carmaker pays respects to Pedro Rodríguez de la Vega, Mexico’s most successful racing driver in history, with this finely crafted 911 Coupe.
The car emerged in cooperation between Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, the Porsche Museum, the company’s Latin America branch, and heirs of the legendary driver.
Aside from the immediately recognizable Gulf livery, it sports new centerlock wheels and a plaque on its b-pillar bearing Rodriguez’ autograph along with an outline of his Porsche 917 KH. Found below the rear spoiler are the names of the eight races that he won piloting his Porsche prior his untimely demise at just 31 years old at the Norisring track.
A peek inside the cabin reveals embroidered headrests and dash plaques. Another autograph can be found on a blue ignition key, and there are also blue leather bags and suitcases with orange stitching.
Rodriguez has scored two victories at the Formula One, one at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and eleven at other endurance races, including eight behind the steering wheel of a Porsche car. The special edition commemorates 50 years since his death.
