Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar himself had once driven this 47-year-old Porsche 911 RSR, to the racetrack among other things. The car is on sale again and goes for U.S. $850,500, a substantial discount from the $2,200,000 price tag it had in March.
The 911 RSR belongs to a batch of just 15 IROC racecars, and was originally owned by Roger Penske. John Tunstall, Charlie Kemp and Emerson Fittipaldi piloted it until 1978, when it was sold to Columbia.
The seller claims that, once Escobar acquired the coupe, it put a Porsche 935 body on it and drove it to several racing tournaments. After his death, the supercar returned to the United States, where it was restored – first in the 1990s and then in 2007-2010. It has been reverted to its factory condition and repainted in a rare Sahara Beige color complete with a Fittipaldi-era livery.
Aside from minor age marks, the car is said to be in excellent driving condition, and uses a 3.-liter flat-six engine to drive the wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
In May, Atlantis Motor Group attempted to sell the supercar in Florida (watch the video for details). It is not clear who put it up for auction again.
