730-PS, manual, rear-drive RUF RT12 R set to fetch over $1M

Tuning specialist RUF only built 13 RT12 supercars based on the Porsche 911 (997), and only two of those were rear-wheel drive, so this example can sell for a tidy sum at the auction set to take place in the United States in May.

The RT12 was introduced 18 years ago, but this specific example was only put together in 2015 and still has only 444 km (276 miles) on the odometer. RUF had exhibited it in the legendary Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

Power for the build comes from a modified flat six-cylinder equipped with twin turbos and offering a number of induction pressure presets. This car is an R spec, meaning it supports the highest boost pressure possible and gets 730 PS (720 hp / 537 kW) along with 939 Nm (693 lb-ft) of torque out of it. A six-speed manual transmission drives the rear axle.

The car needs 3.4 seconds to zap from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) and maxes out at 350 km/h (217 mph). Compared against a stock 911 (997), the gorgeous RUF creation boasts enhanced aerodynamic performance, upgraded suspension and a revised interior.

The auction holder does not provide any price estimations, but another such RWD coupe with over 27,000 km (around 17,000 miles) under its belt and a less extreme engine fetched $910,000 USD at an auction in February. This one may easily exceed the $1 million mark when it goes under the hammer next month.
