I AM Detailing has posted another engrossing video on YouTube showing a mud-covered, dusty, old Porsche 911 (993) become as good as new thanks to an expertly executed round of cleaning. The result should be available on Bring-a-Trailer around this time.
Dry ice blasting is considered the optimal way to begin restoring an automotive classic, because it lacks abrasion and doesn’t leave any residue in hard-to-reach places, as some other cleaning methods do. It is also compatible with most hard materials, including metals, plastics and rubbers.
The technician in the video starts his work with the lower chassis, taking his time to blast all dirt and grime away from suspension parts and moving on gradually towards the bushings and the exhaust system. Moving on, he cleans the wheels and the plastic window in the back. The upper half of the car is then restored using the more conservative methods, such as buffing and polishing.
There is no mention of price, but well-preserved Porsche 911 (993) models tend to fetch north of $100,000 USD these days, and this one looks like it just left the factory.
