RUF brings its King of the Hill to the Monterey Car Week

The talented engineering team of RUF Automobile felt like reminding the world about the Porsches that won hill climb races in the last century, so it came up with this Project RBS “Bergmeister”, which can be translated as “Mountain King”.

The speedster is packed with references to such icons as the Porsche 906 (some of the body outlines), 909 (paintjob) and 718 RS 60 (headlights). There are also hints at the half-century-old Adamowicz TransAm 911 and even the 1997 GT1 Evo, among others.

Thanks to an all-carbon body, the topless ride tips the scales at 1,100 kilos (2,425 pounds), making it the lightest in RUF’s portfolio to date. Various techniques and tricks were sued to achieve such an impressive result. For instance, while the car still retains a rather bulky front bumper (probably dictated by aerodynamic performance requirements), it does away with most of the glass save for a tiny windshield and ditches the rear apron altogether. A peek behind its 19-inch wheels clad in ultra-wide tires reveals carbon-ceramic brakes, and the suspension is tuned specifically for hill climbing.

Powering the wheels is a purpose-built RUF engine rated at 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. The cabin uses black Alcantara more than anything else, but customers can specify something different here, as usual.

Pricing and production quantity haven’t been revealed so far.
