The high-riding Porsche 911 Safari is slated to debut next year, but in the meantime, the company wants to show us what it is capable of.
The car pictured here has recently climbed to the top of Ojos del Salado, the world’s tallest volcano situated in Chile. It is a 911 Carrera 4S spec armed with a stock flat-six engine turbocharged to 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) in conjunction with a seven-speed DCT and AWD.
Other highlights include a custom livery, portal beam axles, all-terrain tires and a system called Porsche Warp-Connecter that creates a mechanical link between all four wheels. Carbon-fiber seats, robust undercarriage protection and roll bars round off the impressive project. Oh, and the ground clearance is nothing short of impressive at 350 millimeters (13.67 inches).
The altitude claimed by the 911 Safari prototype was 6,007 meters, or 19,708 feet.
