Gooding & Company to auction off a unique Porsche 911 RSR Turbo

Time shows no remorse to either people or motor vehicles. To think that a few years ago all these marvelous sports cars used to win tournaments and set new records, but now? They aren’t regarded as anything other than collector’s rarity, frequently swap hands and go under the hammer.

Today’s case is no exception, either: Gooding & Company has announced that it would hold an auction for an ultra-rare Porsche 911 RSR Turbo sports car this spring. It was the first Porsche vehicle to get a turbocharged engine.

This Porsche 911 RSR Turbo once came second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In accordance with the race requirements of the time, it was equipped with a 2.14-liter opposed turbo engine which could effortlessly deliver almost 500 hp. It also had a five-speed mechanical transmission typical for its class.

Furthermore, this particular vehicle has a chassis borrowed from its street-legal counterpart. It has been modified to weigh 30 kilograms (66 lbs.) less – things like this can give a racing pilot quite an edge during the race.

Its body is composed of glass-fiber reinforced plastic and stands on Porsche 917 Concept wheels.

A total of four Porsche 911 RSR Turbo cars have been assembled.
