German turbocharger manufacturer TurboZentrum has devised an upgrade turbo kit for the Porsche 911 (997), including the GT2 and GT2 RS versions. The company calls it a “turbo optimization”, arguing that it the package can prolong the service life of the engine.
In its stock form, the 997 generation offers from 480 to 620 metric horsepower (473–612 hp; 353–456 kW). Once the turbines are replaced along with the housing, the output can rise to 850 PS (838 hp / 625 kW). The actual peak power, as well as the power and torque response curves are up to the customer to decide on – the company will produce a custom compressor flywheel based on your needs.
Per the manufacturer, the reinforced housing and the more robust ball bearings will ensure long-term operation of the setup despite the added power.
In the video below, a TurboZentrum representative talks in German about the lingo commonly used by turbocharger kit vendors and explains the nuances.
