The Transformers movie franchise has recently gotten a new installment called ‘Rise of the Beasts’, which starred a particularly exotic and famous Porsche 911 – a 964-bodied Carrera RS 3.8. The company has now released a post-premiere trailer to highlight the car.
Only 55 units like this were made with an engine stroked out to 3.8 liters of volume (up from 3.6) and boosted to 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). The example in the video is named Mirage. The Porsche Design Department actively helped with the shooting and made a total of five such vehicles, each of which received at least some screen time.
If you are wondering how the sports car is driving itself on city streets in one of the scenes, the company has a funny explanation. Apparently, it was piloted by a stunt driver sitting on the roof all the time. The steering had to be rebuilt from the ground up to enable this trick, and the scene still took quite an effort to film.
