Porsche 911 GT1 sheds parts racing towards the hilltop

The iconic Porsche 911 GT1 racer that won the Le Mans marathon of 1998 lost its rear wing and engine cover racing in Goodwood this weekend. The driver lost control and damaged his entrusted ride.

The racecar with the number 26 claimed the gold of the 24 Hours of Le Mans a quarter of a century ago. It has recently been brought to Goodwood to celebrate the venerable endurance race turning 100 and to entertain the watchers of the annual hill climb competition.

Things did not go as planned, though. The prototype lost its rear wing after colliding with a hay bale at the corner of the track. Later on, the same video shows the 911 GT1 driven without its engine panels at the rear. The lost parts were later collected onto a trailer and towed away.
