Owners of older air-cooled Porsche 911 models get a £30k tuning kit option

UK-based tuning company Swindon Powertrain has devised a complex upgrade for the engines powering the air-cooled 964 and 993 generations of the Porsche 911. It includes everything you need to rebuild a cylinder head assembly and starts from a cool £29,950 (that’s a bit over $36,000).

Included in the package are precision-milled, billet-aluminum cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder. Their greater manufacturing accuracy ensures top-notch performance under increased stress, the company says. Titanium valves, springs, push-rods and connecting rods, caps and belt drive components are also included. The list of options mentions non-standard pistons and camshafts that you can order with a custom geometric profile for your build’s specific needs.

Swindon Powertrain says it believes that imperfections in the cylinder head manufacturing processes ultimately hindered the evolution of naturally aspirated Porsches, which could otherwise have seen more years of active use. The company avoids mentioning any specific performance numbers, though, saying only that the power curve becomes steeper with the upgrade and the engines rev up much faster from the start, up to a maximum of 12,000 RM.
