A rare German Porsche 935 racecar is up for grabs in the USA with 146 km (90 miles) under its belt and the bidding at $1,050,935 with two weeks remaining. Only 77 units were made four years ago.
The car (see video) was announced in 2018 as an anniversary edition celebrating Porsche turning 70 years old. It also paid homage to the original 935 racer nicknamed ‘Moby Dick’ from the 1970s.
The anniversary model is based on the track-only 911 GT2 RS chassis and features an exclusive carbon-fiber bodywork with an elongated rear end and a tweaked aero kit. A 3.8-liter turbo engine under the hood makes 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW), sending them to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Buyers could choose from a variety of finishes, including historical racing liveries. The example on sale right now was number 48 in its production batch and styled to resemble the original Porsche 935 that won the 1979 Daytona marathon. Its owner paid $27,500 for the paint job alone.
The car was also specced with $44,000 worth of accessories, including an extra gas tank. On the whole, the owner spent $1,048,000 when they bought it in April 2019.
In August 2022, the car was reacquired by a Porsche dealership. According to the current owner, it has only left the parking lot three times in its life: for two special events and a photo shoot. At the moment of reacquisition, the odometer showed less than 30 km (19 miles).
