A three-decade-old Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6 S is heading to an auction in the States expected to win between $1.0 and $1.2 million. Only 90 such vehicles were made after the company officially ended the production of the 964 generation.
This example comes equipped with a 3.6-liter engine rated at 360 PS (354 hp / 272 kW). Porsche had only produced cars like these for a single model year – 1994. It churned out fewer than 1,500 units, but was somehow left with 90 chasses or so when the production ended. Rather than scrapping them, the company forwarded the chasses to Porsche Exclusive, which turned them all into high-end sports cars. Many ended up with the marque’s famous Flachbau front end (‘flat nose’). Fewer than 20 units were made with a normal front.
Aside from its other distinctions, the special edition featured a powertrain boosted to 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW), revised gear ratios, a 40mm (1.6-inch) reduction in ride height, performance brakes and mild track-inspired styling updates all around.
The car on sale presents a particular interest to collectors thanks to its black exterior, cabin and headliner. Only 10 vehicles from that batch were finished in all black. It’s also one out of only two 911 Turbo 3.6 S models officially sold in Canada. The counter shows around 35,000 km (22,000 miles) of use.
