Motor Classic&Competition, a team specializing in exotic vehicle sales, is looking for a buyer of a 1966 Porsche 910 racer. The listing claims it was the first prototype in a series of 28 production units. There is no public price, but Motorsport Magazine references insiders saying it’s worth at least $2.2 million.
The Porsche 910 (see video) is considered one of the company’s greatest milestones in motorsports. This particular example was used by Porsche to try out innovative design solutions, but it also took part in actual races. All in all, it had participated in roughly 250 racing events of varying degree of significance. Niki Lauda, legendary racing drive and thrice-champion of Formula 1, piloted it to victory at the 1,000-kilometer (621-mile) long Österreichring endurance race in Austria in 1969.
The model is based on a space-frame with glass-fiber bodywork and makes use of a flat-six engine dialed to 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW). It can reach a top acceleration of 270 km/h (167 mph). The seller claims that it is in excellent condition, having been fully restored and kept in a private collection since 1994.
