Porsche 911 Turbo has been chosen to fill in the safety car position at the annual World Endurance Championship (WEC). Remarkably, the deal will remain in force until 2021. According to the terms of the agreement, the German automobile manufacturer will provide sixteen cars to be used by service and ambulance personnel during the races.
In contrast to its series-produced counterpart, the Porsche 911 Turbo safety car will sport a dedicated livery and come with readjusted suspension and an improved braking system. It will also get a roof-mounted light rack and a radio station.
In its most basic version, the Porsche 911 Turbo comes equipped with a 3.8-liter, opposing-cylinder V6 engine with 540 hp (403 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb·ft) of torque. It sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in mere 3 seconds and doesn’t hit its speed ceiling until 320 km/h (200 mph).
