It is a general belief that driving electric vehicles is less emotionally involving, which is why many automakers resort to tricks. Porsche just revealed that it won’t follow their example.
For example, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has a feature called N e-shift that imitates an eight-speed gearbox, complete with advanced sound effects and even realistic jolts from the electric motors stopping for a moment. Some drivers may actually like this, but Porsche argues that electric cars have their own merits and advantages, and the drivers would be better off realizing these advantages instead of trying to replicate the experience they were used to. Furthermore, since gas-powered Porsches are not going anywhere anytime soon, there is always a fallback option for those too conservative to make the EV switch.
Based on these considerations, the German sports car maker will not be installing any equipment in its EVs to imitate the behavior of the traditional cars.
