Porsche 911 GT3 RS fails to surpass GT2 in Nürburgring

Porsche has revealed official video footage showing a new 911 GT3 RS supercar completing the North Loop of the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. It only took 6 minutes and 56.4 seconds for the car to finish the entire 20.6-kilometer (12.8 mi) long track; nonetheless, the result fell just a bit short of the record previously set by its peer, the Porsche GT2 RS.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS was piloted in turns by Porsche pilots Lars Kern and Kévin Estre. Both were given two attempts; Estre was the one to score the shortest time.

GT3, an update to the Porsche 911 RS supercar series, debuted before the visitors of the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show a month and a half ago. The vehicle came equipped with a revised naturally-aspirated V6 engine capable of 520 hp (388 kW), which is 20 hp (15 kW) above its predecessor model. It could accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in mere 3.2 seconds and only reached its speed ceiling at 312 km/h (194 mph).
