Porsche has begun testing an unusual prototype racer on the Nürburgring, reports Carscoops. It looks like a revival of the iconic design known in Germany as “Flachbau” (“flat design”) and “Slantnose” in English-speaking countries.
The Flachbau nameplate reached production in the ‘80s and was usually limited to small batches. It now looks like Porsche wants to bring back the flat-nosed 911. In fact, the company patented the trademarks “Flachbau” and “Flachbau RS” in Europe in May this year.
In addition to the visibly slanted front end, the prototype sports new lights all around, a bonnet lid with air vents and a different front bumper with added aero fins. It rides on centerlock wheels and has yellow brake calipers. A towering rear wing rounds off the sporty image.
Overall, it looks like the car could be the product of a collaboration with Manthey Racing, a long-standing partner of the Stuttgart sports car maker. The body kit and styling in particular make us think of the Manthey aero kit for the 911 GT2 RS. What remains unknown is whether Porsche plans to sell the Slantnose under its own branding or as an option package from Manthey.
