Porsche 911 GT2 RS writes its name into history

A Porsche 911 GT2 RS piloted by Warren Luff has set a new international lap record on the Bend Motorsport Park Circuit in Australia. To be frank, this was also the first time someone entered the freshly constructed track, so this is only an achievement from the purely technical point of view – but an honor nonetheless.

Australia already had one Formula One racetrack in its capital, Melbourne. The Bend Motorsport Park, located in the town named Tailem Bend, is its second F1-friendly circuit.

The entire loop is 7.7 kilometers or 4.78 miles long and is the second-longest loop in the world after the North Loop of Nürburgring. It had cost around $100,000,000 to build.

Warren Luff has managed to finish the lap in 3 minutes 24 seconds. Even though this is merely the first time record, there are reasons to believe that it won’t be beaten anytime soon. The same vehicle had previously set a new high at Nürburgring, dethroning the Lamborghini Huracan.
