Porsche unveils a 911 worth $1M

During the Porsche Rennsport Reunion event at Laguna Seca, California, the German sports car maker has taken the wraps off the 911 GT3 R rennsport. Designed as a track-only alternative to the mass-produced 911 GT3 R, it boasts both visual and technological distinctions and starts from an eye-watering $1,040,000.

The hood and the roof are the only body panels remaining from the GT3 R. The rest of the body is composed of carbon fiber panels designed with racetrack performance as the only important consideration in mind.

The rear wing blade is so massive it required additional supports to stay on. Aside from it, the car wound up with side applications and new 18-inch BBS wheels imitating racecar rims. Buyers can choose from seven standard exterior colors and three liveries.

The interior stays track-focused with racing gauges, a safety cage and just one bucket seat for the driver. The central display has an updated UI, and additional displays reside near the a-pillars to act as side mirror substitutes.

The 4.2-liter flat-six engine under the hood makes use of new pistons and camshafts, as well as other performance components. It accepts gasoline, biofuel and synthetic fuel and produces 620 PS (612 hp / 456 kW) as opposed to the street-legal version’s 565 PS (557 hp / 416 kW). Porsche says the car is not compliant with any specific racing standards or regulations.

Going back to the engine, it can rev up to 9,400 RPM and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission. Buyers can choose from multiple exhaust systems some of which are too loud to be used on tracks with strict noise pollution regulations, while others aren’t.

Only 77 units will be made.
