Check out a unique Subaru-swapped Porsche 914

A one-of-a-kind Porsche 914 with a Subaru Impreza engine at its core went on sale last November, but didn’t meet the reserve. We have now learned the details of the build.

The owner of the 914 bought it in 2014 and handed it over to U.S.-based tuning company Archive a year later. The idea was to replace the feeble 80-PS (79-hp / 59-kW) engine with a superior Subaru EJ20 flat-four rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW).

It was easier said than done, though. A whole lot of components had to be designed and fabricated from scratch and the entire drivetrain had to be rebuilt in order for the car to start moving again. The cooling and the exhaust systems have also been revised.

You can tell the swapped 914 by its fender flares inspired by the 914-6 model, 17-inch Fuchs-style alloy wheels and a gloss-black finish. The interior also appears refurbished, but the launch time and other dynamic data remain unknown.
