Porsche 918 Spyder finds employment as an airport shuttle

One of the airports in Atlanta will use a Porsche 918 Spyder to transport select passengers to Delta Airlines planes and back.

Getting a lift on the supercar will only be available to the most active participants of the airline operator’s Delta Medallion program. Even they will have to draw a raffle ticket to see whether they get to enjoy the privilege.

Delta Airlines, which is a long-standing partner of Porsche, has long been using the marque’s vehicles to transfer its V.I.P. clients as they arrive and depart. The 918 Spyder will only be available in Atlanta and only for a limited time. As such, it is probably little more than a publicity stunt for both companies.

The original Spyder model (see video) debuted ten years ago, but remains one of the world’s fastest-accelerating cars with a sprint speed of 2.6 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph). Its 4.6-liter V8 and electric motors join efforts for 887 PS (875 hp / 652 kW) and 1,280 Nm (944 lb-ft) of torque. Only 918 units was made.
