A Porsche 924 Carrera GTR is looking for a new owner in the USA, and while there is no reserve, its ultra-rare status may bring its seller $500,000 USD or more.
Back in the time, Porsche produced around 150,000 Carreras with the number 924 on them, but only 17 emerged in the GTR specification built for hardcore endurance racing (see video). This one was the last one built from that batch.
Aside from a thoroughly reworked chassis, the GTR had its stock 2.0-liter engine boosted from around 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) all the way to 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW). Consider that all that power propelled a car that weighed in under one metric ton (under 2,200 lbs).
The GTR could sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than five seconds and did not hit its speed ceiling until 290 km/h (180 mph). Among other events, these racers took part in multiple 24 Hours of Le Mans races and won IMSA prizes.
This one, however, never saw the racetrack – or so the owner claims. Its true mileage remains unmentioned. The car started its life as a demo vehicle in a U.S.-based Volkswagen showroom, after which it was sold off to a private collection. One of the owners chose to adorn it with an OEM livery that a 924 GTR wore to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1982.
