Have pity on a poor old Porsche 928 fallen victim to tuning

We have seen hundreds of restomods lately, but this one has to be one of the most impressive – for all the wrong reasons.

The car started its life 41 years ago as a Porsche 928 that someone imported into the USA. Its new owner had it finished in a glossy dark gold color, the worst possible match for the black body accents, chrome wheels and yellow brake calipers. Koni shocks and Weltmeister springs remedy things a little by dropping the ride height for a sportier stance, but those 17-inch Fikse wheels in the arches beg to be replaced with something more deserving of a place on a classic car like this.

If you found it easy to agree with us on the above paragraph, don’t bother checking out the cabin. The black-and-white checker pattern on the seats and the door panels would look appropriate in an understated and fashionable luxury saloon, not a gaudy golden egg on wheels.

One might argue that a Porsche car is all about the engine and handling, above all else. We dreaded it would come to that, but… There is no Porsche drivetrain left here. A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 occupies the engine bay, pushing the torque to the rear wheels through a transaxle box. There is no information on how powerful it is, but we suspect the owner should have no trouble escaping from car shows before all the rotten eggs and tomatoes can catch up with them.

There are many mysteries in this world. That someone actually forked over $52,500 USD for this disaster a couple of days ago shall forever remain one of them.
