Porsche professes love to the V8 engine

In its latest video entitled “A love letter to the Porsche V8”, the German automaker looks back on 45 years of designing these engines and says it dedicates this year’s Valentine’s Day to them.

“Eight cylinders at 90 degrees from each other, and in the form of a 'V'. It was love at first sight,” the description goes. The company reminds us that the front-engined coupe produced before 1995 was its only vehicle with a drivetrain like this. Back in 1978, it won European Car of the Year.

The marque’s first SUV – Cayenne – was the next in line to get a V8 engine, and quickly proceeded to become one of its best-selling models ever. “Our love knows no bounds,” the Germans state.

The video also touches upon the 918 Spyder, where a V8 toiled in conjunction with an electric motor (the same is true for the Panamera Hybrid).

Wrapping up the story is a footage from the tests of a part-electric endurance racecar, hinting that the V8 isn’t going anywhere soon.
