Austrian tuner offers an affordable and practical Porsche 944 Safari

Porsche Safari fans constitute a community of their own even among devoted Porsche enthusiasts. There is something timelessly charming about the Safari looks, even though the conversion is usually very expensive. Luckily for us, Austria-based tuning firm Vagabund is now offering a more budget-friendly spin on the Safari.

The donor vehicle is a Porsche 944 or 924 produced in 1975-1991. The Vagabund team lifts it by 40 mm (1.6 inches) using spring spacers and new rear shocks. OEM wheels get a fresh paint coat in black or gold, and customers are free to choose from a few available tire options. The front end received a light rack composed of HELLA Rallye 1000 or Comet 500 floodlights (you choose), and a roof rack is provided as well.

Changes inside are kept down to a minimum. There is a short-throw gear lever and a Vagabund badge on the steering wheel, but that’s about it. Things stay stock under the hood, too, but a robust-looking skid plate should protect the engine from damage.
