Offensive-looking, GM-swapped Porsche 944 can be yours for $17k

Although the Porsche 944 may not be as popular as the German sports car maker’s more iconic vehicles, it still has a following of its own and gets tuned every so often. But while most tuners know when to stop – more or less – the car you see here is a prime example of what happens when you let your imagination run wild.

The weird pimped-out 944 is up for grabs on eBay in the USA right now for a buy-it-now price of $17,000. That’s a solid sum of money to hand over for a Porsche that no longer has its 2.5-liter inline-four engine at the front. Instead, it packs a massive GM LS4 V8 behind the seats. The mill still links to the car’s standard five-speed manual gearbox and churns out 406 PS (400 hp / 299 kW). The original one was admittedly much less powerful at around 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW).

This is about it for the advantages, though. The exterior looks unrecognizable with a new bulky front end, a tiny Porsche badge looking lost amidst the giant radiator grille, and two fog lamp sets at once – round and rectangular. The taillights somehow manage to come across as even more outlandish, though, and a closer look reveals that they are all slightly different. Not a car for an OCD-riddled perfectionist, that’s for sure.

And then there are all the defects – bent body panels, scratches and scuffs, all visible in the gallery below. The vivid purple paint job helps with the overall impression, but the seller admits that it, too, is best admired from a distance.

So, any love for this oddball? Would you ever consider buying one?
