Porsche 944 Turbo gets ready for tomorrow’s auction

Mecum Auctions will attempt to sell this rather unusual 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo in Las-Vegas tomorrow. The sports car has a modded engine and small regular headlights instead of the iconic pop-up ones.

We can see this design decision upsetting many staunch fans of the German classic, but bear in mind that the pop-up headlamps are prone to malfunctioning and are expensive to maintain and repair – and the situation gets worse with each passing year.

That asde, the restomod makes use of new chrome-coated rims, a stainless-steel exhaust system and a leather-draped interior kept in great condition. Carbon fiber inserts and a modern center console and dashboard round things off here.

The seller makes no mention of the power rating of the coupe, but does mention an increase in displacement volume and the addition of forged pistons. A price estimate also hasn’t been made public yet.
