Tesla-swapped Porsche 944 weighs about the same as the original

As you may have noticed, electromods of retro vehicles tend to have one fatal flaw: too heavy. Electric Classic Cars embarked on a quest to find a motor/battery pack combo that would not spoil the divine balance of this Porsche 944. It was a success!

The company worked with a Porsche 944 Turbo, which started its life with underwhelming 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW) and proceeded to get a bump to somewhat less underwhelming 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW) years into the production. Perfect per-axle weight distribution still warranted it plenty of agility on the track, though.

This example ended up with a Tesla Small Drive rated at 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) and a rather modest 48-kWh traction battery split in two parts to balance out the loads. The entire torque goes to the rear wheels, and the big advantage is that you get peak torque straight from the start thanks to the motor being electric.

However, an even greater merit of the built, per ECC, is the fact that the coupe weighs barely more than before, and handles just as well as the original. Even if you drive aggressively, around 225 km (140 miles) of range from a full charge should not be a problem. For both city and track driving, this kind of range is sufficient for most drivers.
