Porsche 959 wreck goes up on sale for U.S. $500,000

Mecum auction house will soon be holding an auction for a rare Porsche 959 Komfort with only 5,880 kilometers (3,655 miles) on its odometer. The car is a part of a limited series of around 270 vehicles, and it sells for 500,000 USD – despite the fact that its front part was badly damaged in an accident.

Compared to the main 911 series, the Porsche 959 features an original body design which involves the use of fireproof materials, aramid fiber and aluminum. The entire car weighs in at just 1,450 kg (~3,200 lb).

The hood cover conceals a 2.8L turbocharged flat engine rated at 450 hp (336 kW) and 500 Nm (370 lb·ft) of torque. It works in tandem with a manual transmission with five gears, a single reverse gear and another gear for driving on slippery surfaces.

To top things off, the Porsche 959 comes all-wheel-driven and features a flexible suspension design which allows for road clearance adjustment.
