Roofless Porsche Bergspyder one-seater gets a video review

Supercar Blondie spent some time with the extreme and unique concept car that Porsche unveiled two years ago based on the old-gen Boxster.

The vehicle was built to celebrate an anniversary of the iconic Porsche 909, which managed to weigh in at just 384 kilograms (846 pounds). The modern take on that classic is much heavier than that at 1,130 kilos (2,491 pounds), but it is still impressively light, all things considered.

Porsche itself seems to have forgotten all about the prototype since revealing it two years ago. Supercar Blondie decided to find out what happened to it and learned that the car wasn’t just unique – it was also completely functional and track-worthy. The reason Porsche never put it into production was because it could not be made road-legal in most countries.

As you can see, the doors lack handles, but you can get into the only seat inside if you pull a strap located next to the fuel tank lid. A lightweight wind deflector does its best to substitute for the missing windshield, and the seat inside comes from the 918 Spyder.
