Porsche Boxster Mk1 reimagined as a Spider lookalike is kinda cool

Only a select few Porsche cars were ever released in the highly desirable Spyder modification, and the 986 Boxster convertible was not on the list. Now, TuneRS Motorsports has filled the gap with its own conversion.

Just to be clear, the donor vehicle is already a convertible with a large, automatic soft top. The Spyder pictured here is minimalistic in comparison, with a lower windshield, a dual-hump engine deck lid behind the seats (a.k.a. ‘double bubble’), and a small red cloth for the top which you have to put on and take off by hand when the car is parked.

Complementing the fast look are 18-inch Cayman S wheels, LED-based headlights, special side skirts, a splitter and a diffuser. A glimpse of the cabin reveals a squared-off steering wheel, a shortened 5MT stick, and red dash gauges.

Power for the improvised Spyder comes from a tuned 2.7-liter flat-six engine now capable of 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque.
