Carwow has compared four compact cars – a BMW M2, an Audi RS 3, a Mercedes-AMG A 45 S and a Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 – on a quarter-mile drag strip. A brake test was included as usual.
The M2 is the top performer here with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder making 460 PS (454 hp / 338 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. It weighs 1,725 kilos (3,803 pounds) and sends the torque to the rear wheels.
Powering the Audi RS 3 is a turbo five-pot capable of 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It benefits from AWD and is also lighter than the BMW at 1,570 kg (3,461 lbs).
The AMG A 45 S relies on a class-leading four-cylinder turbo to deliver 421 PS (414 hp / 310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels. It tips the scales at 1,550 kg (3,417 lbs).
The final contender is a Porsche 718 Boxster GTS with 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal. Unlike the former two, it is a rear-wheel drive car.
