Entry-level Porsche 911 now packs AWD

The most affordable Porsche 911 Carrera sports car series will now ship with a new all-wheel-drive system as a standard feature.

The system is said to provide for a finer distribution of torque between the axles than ever before. The refreshed 911 Carrera 4 ships with a 3.0-liter opposite-six engine, twin turbochargers and 385 hp (287 kW) along with 449 Nm (331 pound-feet) of torque at the crank. Mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, it accelerates the coupe from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds (4.0 s with the SportChrono package installed). The convertible lags slightly behind with 4.4 s and 4.2 s, respectively.

The only visual distinction from the more powerful 911 Carrera 4S series (see video) comes in the form of rectangular tailpipes (the 4S has oval pipes).

The new Carrera 4 now also ships with active adaptive suspension and a 10.9-inch multimedia display by default. Paid options include torque vectoring control, rear differential, carbon-ceramic brakes, Carrera 4S-style wheels and much more.
