Porsche Carrera GT hits $2M auction price record

A 2005 Porsche Carrera GT just changed ownership for $2 million USD at an online auction, surpassing the second most expensive Carrera GT sold last week by $98,000.

Unlike that car, which had 1,225 kilometers (761 miles) under its belt, this one had only 402 km (250 miles). It also featured a different exterior/interior combination: a silver body with a brown leather cabin. The same leather was used to produce a matching carryall and bags, which were part of the deal.

Despite being virtually new, the car underwent thorough maintenance a year ago, ending with a new cooling system pump, spark plugs, battery, tires and brake liquids, as well as some sensors.

The original buyer paid $448,300 for his luxury sports car.

The Carrera GT (see video) has many racecar qualities and comes equipped with a 5.7-liter V10 mated to a six-speed manual transmission for 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW). Getting from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes less than four seconds. The production run equals 1,270 units.
