Porsche Carrera GT set to fetch record-breaking $3.5M at auction

A 2004 Porsche Carrera GT with as little as 43 km (27 miles) under its belt is set to sell for U.S. $3,500,000, which will make it the most expensive Carrera GT in history if the deal is finalized.

Porsche only made 1,270 such cars in total, and the vehicle in question is number 154. Like most of its peers, it comes finished in silver with terracotta-hued leather in the cabin.

According to the seller, the supercar is every bit as perfect now as it was when it was produced. No explanation is given on why it was never driven or when the last maintenance was.

A 5.7-liter V10 partnered up with a six-speed manual transmission drives the wheels with 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW). The gearbox was what set the Carrera GT apart from its rivals and made it special: for example, the Ferrari Enzo had a sequential gearbox, while the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was automatic.

The next most valuable Carrera GT was also finished in silver with terracotta trim inside. It was a model year 2005 example with slightly more than 400 km (250 miles) under its belt. It found a new owner at the beginning of this year, who paid $2,000,000 for it.
