In a recent interview, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said that the company was designing a new Cayenne SUV based on the drivetrain of the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
It remains unclear whether the company plans to improve the drivetrain further or leave it as it is. However, at any rate, the new car is going to have more horsepower than the Bentley Bentayga or even the Lamborghini Urus.
The electrified Panamera debuted in the fall of 2017 armed with a 4.0-liter V8 engine rated at 542 hp (404 kW) and an electric motor contributing 134 hp (100 kW) of its own. The company estimated the resulting performance at 671 hp (500 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lbft) of torque. The vehicle sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a breezy 3.4 seconds, tops out at 310 km/h (193 mph), and can cover up to 50 kilometers (31 miles) on electric power alone.
While all of the above certainly sounds promising, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid likely won’t keep its status as the market-wide best performer for long. The matter is, Lamborghini has already scheduled a hybrid version of its Urus SUV for premiere later this year. Rumors say the vehicle will be based on the same Panamera drivetrain.
