China welcomes the coupe-shaped Porsche Cayenne in Shanghai

As you may have heard, Porsche never found the courage to bring its first-ever SUV/coupe combo to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Instead, the company opted for a closed special event in Stuttgart, where select few people voiced their opinions about the design of the upcoming vehicle, and then finally revealed it for everyone at the 2019 Auto Shanghai show.

The exterior of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe will likely garner polarized opinions from SUV coupe lovers and haters. That said, the German luxury carmaker hardly risks anything by releasing it. Looking at the stellar sales figures of the standard Macan and Cayenne, we can safely expect the newcomer to be about as successful.

For the time being, the vehicle is available in two seating configurations: four-seat and five-seat. It also ships with only two powertrains, the entry-level six-cylinder rated at 335 hp (250 kW) and the high-end V8 Turbo with 542 hp (404 kW). The Turbo S E-Hybrid will join the family later, bringing along ca. 680 hp (507 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lbft) of torque. The latter configuration corresponds to what the current Panamera Hybrid ships with.

Among other things, the Porsche Cayenne Coupe has 30 mm (1.2”) less rear axle clearance than the standard SUV, which should translate into a maneuverability boost. It also comes with an enormous panoramic roof in all trim versions, huge 22-inch wheels, and as many as three sports packages.
