Will next-gen Porsche Cayenne run on electric power?

Anonymous sources are reporting that the new Cayenne SUV will offer the same electric powertrain as the Taycan, most likely alongside traditional ICE engines.

The reason for the speculation is that Porsche assigned Stefan Weckbach, ex-Porsche EV Product Manager, to lead the Cayenne into its next iteration. The German automaker plans on electrifying 80% of its lineup by early 2030s, so the rumor seem to be in line with its strategy. That said, Porsche has not provided any kind of official comment yet.

The new Cayenne may come out based on the same PPE platform as the Taycan and Macan EVs. It is important, however, that the current generation – which you can see pictured here and in the video – has only been on the market for four years and has not received a single facelift yet. As such, the next one should probably not be expected before 2024.

Porsche’s next EV on the launch schedule is the Macan, which is expected to arrive later this year and go on sale alongside its gas-powered versions.
