Porsche CEO Oliver Blum has officially greenlit the development of a five-door coupe-SUV model with the Cayenne at base. Once out, the series will face its main competition from the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the BMW X6.
Oliver Blum mentioned plans to release a coupe version of the Porsche Cayenne last year, but it looks like the company hasn’t had a suitable project draft until now.
The new coupe/SUV hybrid will look and feel pretty close to the main Cayenne series and will enter production in the manufacturer’s Leipzig works.
The car will get new bumper design, a slanting roof, originally-styled rear doors, inclined pillars and restyled lighting. According to unconfirmed sources, it is also going to be partially inspired by the second generation of Panamera liftbacks.
The hood compartment of the new Porsche Cayenne will come equipped with some of the strongest engines in the lineup. Buyers may look forward to a choice between a 2.9-liter turbo V6 with 440 hp / 328 kW and a hi-end 4.0-liter V8 with 550 hp / 410 kW.
The third and most current Porsche Cayenne generation has been on the market since the fall of 2017.
