Tuned-up Porsche Cayenne sets a Nürburgring lap record

A still unnamed high-end modification of the Porsche Cayenne has just set a new lap time record on the North Loop in the SUV category, having completed its 12.92-mile (20.8-kilometer) run in just 7 minutes 38.925 seconds.

The Cayenne Coupe has thus dethroned the Audi RS Q8 with its lap time of 7:42.253. Porsche hasn’t even officially revealed the model yet, let alone started sales, but the judging panel still considered it a legitimate production car and registered the record on official terms.

Having said that, the record-setting vehicle received some aftermarket improvements, including a bucket seat for the driver, a roll cage, and 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires that will later become part of the standard trim level.

Earlier rumors claimed that the new powerful Cayenne modification would use a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 640 PS (631 hp / 471 kW), and benefit from major suspension upgrades.
