Porsche 718 Cayman may go all-electric

Following the launch of the Taycan EV, the German luxury carmaker is thinking about releasing a lightweight and compact electric coupe as well.

Reportedly, the negotiations are still in progress.  The senior management seems to agree that an all-electric 911 would be overkill, but fitting the gas-powered 718 Cayman (see photos and the video) with an electric powertrain is a different story altogether.

The suggested coupe-shaped EV will have to switch to a brand-new vehicle platform that the company hopes to reuse in its later releases as well. By the way, the upcoming Audi e-tron GT sedan/saloon will also be based on the Taycan tech.

As for Porsche’s next automobile to hit the market, it will likely be the new Macan. And, even though the manufacturer seems reluctant to admit it at the moment, we are sure that it is just a matter of time before an all-electric 911 arrives.
