Porsche Cayman gets swapped to Mustang Coyote V8

Porsche owners who think it’s OK to swap their car’s opposite-six mill out for a different engine are often called names like “heretics” and “renegades”. In this particular case, however, the driver makes a compelling point.

In case you forgot, the Porsche Cayman 987c R normally ships with a 3.4-liter opposite six-cylinder mounted at the rear end. The output amounts to 330 hp (246 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque, letting the coupe reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and hit 282 km/h (175 mph) under ideal conditions. Not bad given the price – but once again, nothing to write home about in 2020.

This is why he handed his car over to Team Power By The Hour Performance, where it received a Mustang Coyote V8 transplant rated at 500 hp (373 kW).

No tests were conducted following the swap, but one has to believe that the acceleration dynamics has improved in no small way. The only thing that has us worrying is the fact that the massive unit never fit into the engine bay of the Cayman and had to be given a part of the interior space as well.
