Porsche has teamed up with watchmaker TAG Heuer to announce a highly exclusive special edition of its 718 Cayman GT4 RS dedicated to the Carrera Panamericana race held in South America seven decades ago. Only two vehicles will be made, both styled after the Porsche 550 racecars that participated in the race. The pricing details are closely guarded.
Both vehicles will be finished in a shade of silver reminiscent of that worn by the two Porsche 550 racers from 1953. They will be adorned with starting numbers 152 and 154, TAG Heuer logos and Pegasus graphics. The latter is a nod to Mobil Oil, the sponsor of the Porsche Racing Team at the time.
The interior of both cars will feature red leather trim on the seats and a darker finish on the dashboard with Panamericana-themed embroidery and Mexican flag accents. One of the Caymans will have a TAG Heuer chronometer (watch + second timer) installed on its center console. The timepiece has been designed exclusively for this one car and will not be available separately.
While not explicitly said, it is pretty obvious that the cars won’t be easy to buy, either. Porsche says it will auction off one of them in early 2024; the fate of the other one remains a mystery.
