According to recent rumors in the media, Porsche has plans to release its own all-electric SUV within the decade. The new car is likely to be based on the popular Porsche Macan. Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, has already partially confirmed this information.
Furthermore, according to Michael Steiner, CEO of Porsche R&D, the new battery-powered off-roader will have a travel distance of roughly 500 kilometers when fully charged.
Asked for the reason why Porsche had suddenly become interested in electric cars, industry professionals explain that the Old World countries will have to comply with the strictest laws limiting CO2 emission starting from 2030. Some other laws that are less strict will enter full legal force as early as 2025.
