According to Porsche Product Line Manager Sebastian Steiger as cited by Autocar, the Porsche Macan running on fossil fuel may drop out of production sometime around 2024. The date has not been set yet, but the writing seems on the wall for the Macan.
The reason is trivial: strict environmental standards. The car may simply cease to meet the emission requirements by that time. An all-electric variant of the Macan has been repeatedly spotted testing outdoors, but there is no information regarding that version (including whether it will even be called ‘Macan’).
The battery SUV spied on the streets came based on Premium Platform Electric, the same architecture as the Audi Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron. It could be assumed that the ICE-powered and the electric Macan will co-exist on the market until the former ceases to be viable, and Porsche may continue to ship the traditional car to countries with more relaxed emission standards.
